History of the Dan Byler family tells story of pride and craftsmanship.
Amish background is part of the secret.
Dan J. Byler,
founder and owner of PAD-A-PEW, a division of By-Line Mfg. & Uphol.,
Inc., learned early in life what hard work means.
Mr. Byler was born and raised in an old order
Amish home with 11 brothers and sisters, and it was
expected of him to help with farm chores at an early
age. Like most Amish boys, Mr. Byler was trained as
a skilled craftsman, and was taught that a job wasn't I
finished until it was done well.
Edna, his wife,
is also from an Amish background. The couple raised 12 children,
including two sets
of twins. The times were often lean for the family. In
1975 a series of tragedies struck. Mr. Byler accidentally lost his
right eye while he was building furniture. Several days later
he lost two retail businesses
he owned.
That was followed two months later by the death of
a 13-year-old son in a shotgun accident. Seven
children remained at home, and the Bylers were
financially destitute. When it looked the darkest, Byler shored up
his
life with his positive attitude towards God, self and
others.
Mr. Byler's philosopy
on life is, "people must help
themselves and not wait for the aid of others." In
1976 the Bylers established By-Line Mfg. & Uphol..
Inc. The couple, assisted by several of their children,
began servicing churches with their PAD-A-PEW installations.
It didn't take long for the word to get out - the
Byler family provides the highest quality craftsmanship, while offering comfort
for church congregations. Now the elderly and those with physical
ailments can worship without the pain of hard pews.
Since 1976, more than 10,000 churches nationwide
have had PAD-A-PEW installations. The PAD-A-PEW
procedure guarantees a tight cushion fit, installation
on location without interruption of church activities,
and a satisfied customer.
The company grew
by demand and now installs pew padding for large and small churches.
Three
crews of two workers each travel by van to all corners of the United
States. The specially-trained installers provide the high quality
of professional
work the PAD-A-PEW company always maintains.
Ellen King, the Byler's daughter, became president
of the company in 1988.
In keeping with their Amish heritage, the Bylers
have pushed aside misfortune and achieved success
in every avenue of life and business.
